A Visit by Coventry University Students and Staff

Date : 19 JUN 2017

Venue: TARUC Penang Branch Campus

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Toh Guat Guan (TARUC Penang, Branch Campus Head), gave a warm welcome to 29 students and 2 lecturers from Coventry University (CU) who arrived  at TARUC Penang Branch Campus on 19th June 2017.  The team from Coventry was accompanied by Mr. Ng Koh Thye, a staff from TARUC Main Campus, Kuala Lumpur. Some 38 RAF students and TARUC staff members played host to make our visitors from Coventry feel at home.

After the welcoming speech, the visitors were taken on a campus tour. Amongst the places they visited were the Department of Student Affairs, Study Abroad Unit, College Auditorium, Broadcasting Studio, Canteen and the Library. We had an interactive ice breaking session with the team. Students from CU were given a lantern making session by TARUC students. The day ended with a field trip to the Kek Lok Si Temple.

A business game was organised on the second day of the visit. Dr Maktoba Omar, the lecturer from Coventry University taught the students about companies’ logos and students were required to create logos using Lego. After lunch, CU students were taken to Georgetown for a Heritage Cycling tour.

On the third day, CU students and TARUC students went to Plexus for an industrial visit in the morning. They were welcomed warming by Staff from Plexus and it was followed by a tour at the plant. In the afternoon, the students visited BDO, one of the Big 5 accounting firms.

On the final day of the visit, the CU students set up booths to promote their University to  TARUC students at the Foyer. It managed to draw many students to the mini open day. The visit ended with a cultural talk and Tang Yuan making session.

This visit by CU staff and students to TARUC, Penang Branch Campus has facilitated an active interaction among CU students and TARUC students. Hopefully, this visit will encourage more TARUC students to join the dual award collaboration programme.
