The Marketing and Management Society of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, Penang Branch Campus, made an educational visit to Eastern & Oriental Berhad on the 28th of March 2017. The purpose of the visit was to expose students to the property development business, and also to enable students to learn more about the company and how E&O sustains itself as one of the major property players in the Penang property market and beyond.

During the visit, students had the opportunity to listen to a briefing by the representatives from the sales and marketing department, visit the E&O visitors’ centre and also had a firsthand look at Straits Green, E&O’s Park by the sea.

The briefing by Ms. Christina Lau, the General Manager, provided students with knowledge from an industrial perspective on what it is like working in sales and marketing line. Ms. Christina also mentioned that they often deal with customers from countries like China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia as well as those from the United Kingdom. This highlighted the importance of cross-cultural understanding in business, which was very relevant to the second year students who are pursuing Diploma in International Business. Students also took the opportunity to ask questions about the challenges faced by a company in a very competitive property market.

The session ended with a briefing at Straits Green on the importance of preserving the environment and how each and every one of us can contribute to a greener Penang.
