The Christian Fellowship Society and the Student Representative Council of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, Penang Branch Campus, partnered with Watoto Asia to bring “Watoto’s Oh, What Love” to Dewan Tan Sri Loh Boon Siew on the evening of 28th March 2017.

This event was an initiative of Y Bhg Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College. The objective of the event was to raise funds for the Watoto children, who had lost either one or both parents to AIDS or war. The team consisted of 18 children, accompanied by 10 adults.

Watoto means ‘children’ in the Swahili language. The Watoto Ministry was founded by Gary and Marilyn Skinner through Watoto Church in Kampala, Uganda, in 1984. The choir travels all over the world to present Watoto’s vision and mission by sharing their personal stories, music and dance, with the children as live ambassadors for millions of other African children who experienced similar pain, loss and suffering. In addition, the choir also aimed to restore and develop confidence, boldness, and self-esteem of the children.

The energetic one-hour song and dance session attracted enthusiastic students, lecturers, administration staff, members of local churches and the public in Penang. The enthralled audience had a wonderful and enjoyable time clapping to the rhythm of the lively songs. The event managed to raise more than RM12,000 through ticket sales, sponsorship of orphans, donation and the selling of Watoto merchandise. All proceeds from this spectacular event were channeled to Watoto Ministry.
