Dell Malaysia University Connect Day 2019

Date: 19 September 2019

Venue: Dell SWTC, Bayan Lepas, Penang

Dell Malaysia University Connect Day 2019 was organised by Dell as a recruitment drive to look for potential employees to join their Accounting Development Programme (ADP) and Finance Development Programme (FDP). One of Dell’s Legacy of Good Plan goals is to hire 25% of employees from university campuses by the end of year 2020.

The one-day event to connect with college and university students from the northern region was held on 19 September 2019 at Dell SWTC, Bayan Lepas.  Ms. Pang Shin Huey and 16 final year RAF students attended the event.  To be able to attend the event, students must have a CGPA of above 3.4 and must be active in their university.

After registration, Ms. Corina Tan (Vice President of Dell EMC) gave the opening speech. With experience in international sales and global operations, she encouraged the students to speak up, develop their soft skills, and highlighted the importance of good presentation skills especially during conference calls with global team members to stay competitive in the increasingly competitive world. This was followed by a sharing session by Dell business leaders about Dell culture and speeches about the role of the younger generation in the corporate world.

During the lunch break, TAR UC graduates who joined Dell shared about their fulfilling career journey with Dell and encouraged their juniors to perform well during their internship in order to join ADP or FDP, a three year rotational programme for young talents to get more exposure in various inter-related departments, exchange ideas, enhance skills and interact with global talents.

After the lunch break, students were given a Dell office tour. Students got to know more about the working environment at Dell. To stimulate communication at the work place, Dell has an open office where staff can see and talk to each other easily.

The second last agenda of the day was an engaging and interactive session where students were divided into groups of five to interact with two rotating Dell departmental managers separately. The managers shared their work experience and the various functions of all departments in Dell.

To end the day, students shared about what they had learnt from the one-day event. Students found the interview tips useful, and felt the personal sharing session by the corporate leaders to be very useful and inspiring. Group photos of the participants together with the organising committee and business leaders were taken at the end of the event to remember the meaningful day.
