The Community Sociology Advisory Group (CS Advisory Group) of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) Penang Branch Campus held a launching ceremony on 3 October 2019 to send 42 Community Sociology (CS) members to conduct a four-day motivational camp for two rural primary schools under the 23rd Community Sociology Programme [2019].
The students, who are Diploma students from various programmes, were divided into two groups with 21 people in each group. Each group was sent to a rural primary school to facilitate motivational programmes and fun-filled learning activities in order to motivate rural primary school students to pursue their tertiary studies.
The objectives of the Community Sociology programme are to:
cultivate the reading habit in rural students
increase students’ awareness of the importance of tertiary education
nurture and create a caring society
instill good values such as civic-mindedness in our undergraduates
The rural primary school students enjoyed ice-breaking games and fun motivational activities designed to help them better understand the importance of tertiary education.
The Community Sociology project provided an opportunity for TAR UC students to interact as mentors and role models for Year 4 to Year 6 students from SJK(C) Jit Sin A (Berapit, Penang) from 10th to 13th October 2019 and SJK(C) Kubang Semang (Kubang Semang, Penang) from 3rd to 6th October 2019.
