Blackhat-CTF Hacking

The Computer Science Society (CSS) recently organised a talk to introduce the students to Capture The Flag (CTF) Hacking. Mr Lau Kai Jern, Lab Director of The Shepherd Lab of JD Security was invited to speak to the students on the topic “Blackhat -CTF Hacking”. The talk was open to Foundation, Diploma and Degree Students.

The Google Meet Live link was shared at 5:20 to enable registered students to log into the talk. The event started off with the emcee introducing the speaker, Mr Lau to the students. Mr Lau shared his slides and talked about starting a new generation of Malaysia hackers. He mentioned his idea for forming a hacking team to learn more about CTF and also to participate in future competitions. The talk ended at 5:50 and the Q&A session commenced to allow students to ask Mr Lau Kai Jern questions pertaining to CTF Hacking. The event ended at 6:15pm.

The speaker then talked about the type of CTF and its challenges. The type of CTF being focused on is Jeopardy

The speaker informed the students about where to start their journey as a hacker.

Many participants were fired up about what they heard at the talk and asked the speaker a lot of questions. They were also interested in forming and joining teams to take part in CTF. After the Q&A session, Ms. Theresa Chan – from the Department of Computing and Information Technology (FOCS) presented an appreciation certificate to Mr. Lau Kai Jern, thanking him for giving a talk to the students of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (Penang Branch Campus) to help them understand more about CTF Hacking. Lastly, our organizing committee shared the attendance code to all the participants to enable them to take their attendance.
