Innovate Malaysia Design Competition 2020

TAR UC Electronic Engineering students performed well at the recent Online Innovate Malaysia Design Conference (IMDC) 2020, the grand finale of the Innovate Malaysia Design Competition.
367 teams from 28 universities from all over Malaysia took part in the competition that covered areas in technology and applications such as integrated circuits, electronic systems, IoT, 3D modelling, Big Data, mobile and cloud apps, automotive, smart applications, green technology, and bioengineering. Only 59 teams were shortlisted to compete in the grand finale.
Two Diploma of Electronic Engineering students Hong Chin Hin and Lim Wei Chung took the first prize in the Technology Tracks category (Google Track). Their project title is “Automated Recycle Items Sorting Machine with Reward system”. The project used Machine Vision to automatically sort waste at a high efficiency. The project also embedded a reward system to encourage the public to recycle. This project also complies with the UNSDG Goal 12, Target 12.5 that aims to substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse by 2030.
Supervised by TAR UC Lecturers Ts. Khoo Boo Wooi and Ts. Lee Lai Seng, the students took home RM5,000 cash reward.
