2021 Peace Research & Youth Peace Assembly
TAR UC students promoting awareness on issues relating to United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals
Date: 1 January 2021 - 7 February 2021
Time: 8 pm to 9 pm (Youth Peace Assembly)
Platform: Zoom
The Sustainable Development Society successfully organised its inaugural event, the 2021 Peace Research & Youth Peace Assembly, which provided a platform for TAR UC Penang Branch Campus students to exchange ideas on world issues relating to United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The SDGs address a variety of pressing global issues and challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice.
The event was organised with the aims of increasing the awareness of TAR UC students on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), deepening their knowledge of the current social issues and raising their awareness on the importance of peace. As the name suggests, the event consists of two parts and began with participants conducting research into selected global issues (Peace Research). This culminated in the presentation by 5 shortlisted groups, with each group taking turns to present ideas on five SDG themes; Poverty & Human Development, Energy & Environment, Human Rights & Discrimination, Nuclear Disarmament and Building a Culture of Peace (Youth Peace Assembly). A total of 310 students attended the Youth Peace Assembly on 7 February 2021.
