In support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, The Department of Computing and Information Technology (DCIT) in Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) Penang Branch has partnered with Computer Science Society to organize a programming competition featuring “Smart Health Community” which is in line with the “Good Health and Well-Being” goal for all the FOCS students. In this challenge, the faculty would assist students to grasp new knowledge/ideas and inspire all to develop new ICT apps to benefit not only the local community but also to make a difference in the world community.

Operion Ecommerce & Software Sdn Bhd, a Web Design and Software Development Company in Malaysia is the sponsor for the competition. There were two judges for the final stage: Mr. Lukas Tan, CEO of Operion, and Dr. Lim Seng Chee, a lecturer from the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology. The participants were required to use their course assignments to compete, and the groups that were eligible for the final stage were nominated by the FOCS lecturers. Seven groups that made it to the final stage had to attend the presentation session which was held at Co-working Space, TAR UC Penang.

On the 20th of April 2021, before 9 am, all participants and helpers checked in via MY Sejahtera to enter the co-working space. The presentation of the students’ projects started after an introduction by the emcee on the sponsoring partner, Operion Ecommerce & Software Sdn Bhd. at 9 am. The students’ presentations ended at 1 pm, and this was followed by the handover of the prizes to the three winning teams by the honorable judges. Certificates of appreciation were presented to the judges by Mr. Nikalus Swee (Programme Leader of Faculty of Computing and Information Technology). The organizing president delivered an appreciation speech to all those involved and ended the event at 2 pm.
