TAR UMT - ACCA Business Game 2022

Orient and Occident: Solidarity amidst Pandemic

Date: 16th December 2022

Time: 9 am to 1.35 pm

Venue: Dewan Tan Sri Loh Boon Siew (CA Hall)

The TAR UMT-ACCA Business Game has finally returned physically in 2022 with the theme of "Orient and Occident: Solidarity amidst Pandemic," after having to be held virtually in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Following months of extensive efforts and overcoming countless hurdles by the event advisors and committee members, TAR UMT-ACCA Business Game 2022 ended successfully on the 16th of December 2022 with Final Presentations from the three participating companies who advanced from the Semi-Final round.

The main objective of the event was to provide an opportunity for students to incorporate the theoretical knowledge learned from their courses and textbooks into the game. This event also served to nurture entrepreneurship spirits through practical and real-life business experience. TAR UMT-ACCA Business Game provided an avenue where students could develop skills in planning, organising, directing and controlling various functions of business ranging from production, accounting, finance, human resource to marketing while combining both Eastern and Western elements in an innovative manner to create an economic impact through the sales, in line with the theme of the event. This game successfully communicated the importance of corporate social responsibility as some participants donated part of their profits to philanthropic purposes.

This year, we were truly honoured to have the presence of four esteemed external judges: Ms. Sabrina Seah (ACCA Malaysia), Mr. Alfred Ong (Intel Technologies Sdn. Bhd), Ms. Christine Lee (DELL Technologies) and Mr. Yew Wei Kit (Deloitte Malaysia). They went beyond and above their role as a judge to further share their professional expertise and rich experiences in the industry to all the participants and students.

After conducting the final one-day online business trading on 1st December 2022 at the New Foyer, all the finalists put their best effort to deliver professional and outstanding business presentations pertaining to clinching the championship title and lucrative prizes on the final presentation day. Taste Corner Sdn. Bhd. was triumphantly crowned the champion, prevailing over the other finalists. Taste Corner Sdn. Bhd. was followed closely by Octagon Sdn. Bhd. as the first runner-up and Chill Bites Sdn. Bhd. as the second runner-up. Soon Yi Ling, from Taste Corner Sdn. Bhd., and Joanne Choo Pei Shi from Chill Bites Sdn. Bhd., also demonstrated their presentation prowess after emerging as the Most Outstanding Presenters of TAR UMT-ACCA Business Game 2022. The event was then wrapped up with a closing ceremony.

Overall, it was indeed a challenging, but a worthwhile journey for both the organising committee and the participants, as valuable knowledge and skills were fruitfully gained which could not be learned by merely studying within the four walls of a classroom
