Wellness Campaign 2022 : ‘To My Dearest Self’

In this 2021/2022 academic year, Wellness Campaign 2022 with the theme of “To My Dearest Self” was organized. This event was jointly organized by the Peer Support Society and Student Counselling Services from Tunku Abdul Rahman University College Penang Branch Campus.

This event lasted for 4 weeks, from 12th March - 2nd April 2022. It was conducted using several online platforms.  Wellness campaign 2022 is essential for students because it helps students to emphasize the importance of loving ourselves, learn how to love ourselves, embrace our imperfections and love our true selves.

The event was aimed:

The Wellness Campaign was launched on 12 March 2022, from 10 AM to 12 PM. The opening ceremony was conducted on Facebook live. The opening ceremony started with a welcoming speech done by the emcee with an introduction about our event. The Penang Branch Campus Head, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Toh Guat Guan, the advisor of Peer Support Society TAR UC Penang Branch campus, Ms Perng Soo Chern and the president of Peer Support Society, Mr Poh Choo Han were invited to give a speech. The opening ceremony ended at 12 PM after a performance.

The first event “Save the precious gift ‘Health’” talk was organized on 12 March 2022, from 3 PM to 5 PM. Firstly, the emcee welcomed all the participants and gave a brief introduction regarding the speaker Mr. Sim Chun Hean, who graduated from University of Birmingham with a Bachelor in Nutrition Science. Mr Sim discussed the importance of maintaining a healthy diet and provided some practical ways to stay healthier in our daily life. After having a Q&A session, the talk was ended with a group photo taking session at 5 PM.

“Embracing Imperfections” talk was organized on 13 March 2022, from 2 PM to 4 PM. The speaker is Mr Tan Sin Keat. He is a registered counsellor and he is the lecturer of Jabatan Bimbingan dan Kaunseling Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Darulaman. The talk was aimed to help students to learn self-love in the right way in order to maintain their happiness, accept their imperfections, and understand their strengths and weaknesses. A Q&A session was conducted after Mr Tan finished his sharing and the talk was ended after having a group photo.

In addition, there was a talk “Start from Hi but not just Hi” conducted on 19 March 2022, from 2 PM to 4 PM. We invited Mr Vernon C Fernandez to be the speaker. Mr Vernon discussed the characteristics of competent communication in interpersonal interactions. He also shared some useful techniques to gain confidence during a conversation and mentioned how good communication with others can influence our relationships. After his sharing, the participants asked a few questions during the Q&A session. The talk was ended with a group photo session.

After that, there was another talk with the topic “It’s Okay to be not Okay” conducted on 20th March 2022, from 3:00PM - 5:00PM. Ms Daphne Ng was invited to be the speaker for this talk. Ms Daphne Ng is a former national badminton player. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Sports Science and Masters Degree in Sports Science majoring in Sports Psychology. The talk started after the emcee welcomed the participants and introduced the speaker. Ms Daphne shared some useful techniques to find our values and enhance our confidence. She also encouraged us to embrace our imperfections and accept our true selves. After her sharing, a short Q&A session was conducted to answer some questions from the participants. The talk was ended with a photo taking session at 5.00PM.

In addition, a live session was conducted with the theme “Love yourself” on 26 March 2022, from 8 PM to 10 PM. This event was aimed to provide support for participants with psychological problems, highlight the importance of loving ourselves and increase our self-confidence. Participants may express their feelings and share their views on the topic through this activity. The student counsellor of Penang Branch Campus, Ms Perng Soo Chen and the student counsellor of Johor Branch Campus, Ms Izzaty Aisyah were invited to share their experiences and thoughts with us. The panelist had discussed the issues collected from our audiences which were related to the 4 topics - self, friends, relationships and family. The live session ended at 10 PM.

Furthermore, a “7 Days Healthy Lifestyle” challenge had been conducted from 14 March 2022 to 28 March 2022. This event aims to let participants take the opportunity to develop a good habit on a daily basis. Through this event,  participants can understand that developing good habits can improve the quality of life and rhythm. Participants may choose one challenge to achieve. There were six challenges in total: have a healthy meal, sleep and wake up early, have sport activities, meditate, read books and listen to music. Participants were required to share it on their Instagram.

Besides, there was an auction for the participants to bid their prizes. The event was launched from 24 March 2022 to 29 March 2022. The participants may collect their coins by joining our events and use the coins to bid the prizes. There were three types of auction: big auction, value auction and mysterious prizes. The prizes include XiaoMi Band 6, Mini Fridge, HyperX gaming earphones, RM100 Netflix gift card, RM100 Starbucks Card and more.

Lastly, our Closing Ceremony was conducted on 2 March 2022 from 8 PM to 9:30 PM. The closing ceremony was held at Facebook live. The event started after the emcee welcomed the participants. The emcee invited the advisor of Peer Support Society TAR UC Penang Branch campus, Ms Perng Soo Chern and the president of Peer Support Society, Mr Poh Choo Han to give a closing speech. After that, the emcee announced the winners for the big auction, value auction and the mysterious prizes. The closing ceremony ended with a flashback video for the Wellness Campaign 2022.
