TAR UMT Students Demonstrate their Pitching Expertise and Innovative Prowess

In conjunction with the Southeast Asia Institute for Transformational Entrepreneurship (SEAITE) Conference 2023, TAR UMT Penang Branch sent four teams of students from the Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) in Software Systems Development, Bachelor of Electronics Engineering Technology with Honours and Diploma of Electronic Engineering programmes to participate in the iSpark International Pitching Competition (IIPC) 2023 held on 11 August 2023. The theme for this year was “Sustainability: Small Changes, Big Impact” that emphasized the alignment of the participant’s business idea towards achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). 

The event was officiated by Prof. Ir. Dr. Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UMT. SEAITE Conference  an important platform that gathers prominent academicians and industry leaders from South East Asian countries to exchange their insights on the latest trends and paradigm shifts in entrepreneurship. The conference this year highlighted the emerging role of sustainability and AI technology in transforming entrepreneurship. Another key highlight of the event was the iSpark International Pitching Competition where 19 teams from Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand competed against each other to pitch their business start-up ideas to a panel of judges formed by business leaders from various industry sectors.

One solo participant from TAR UMT Penang Branch won second place at the competition. The winner was Mr. Ng Kar Kai from the Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) in Software Systems Development programme with the start-up idea of ‘Blockchain Electronic Voting System’. He was awarded RM2,000 cash prize and a certificate.
